Gum Grafting
What Is Gum Grafting?
Gum grafting is a common dental procedure that aims to replace damaged or lost gum tissue in the mouth. Gum grafting can be performed for both cosmetic reasons and to promote oral health. Gum tissue offers protection to the teeth by covering them and protecting them from harmful acids. Gum tissue is usually lost due to gum recession. Gum recession describes gum tissue that has shrunk away from teeth or receded away from the teeth. Gum recession can be caused by aggressive toothbrushing, biting hard objects such as pen caps or toothpicks, smoking, genetics, and periodontal gum disease. Replacing lost or damaged gum tissue through gum grafting helps to restore oral health and improve the appearance of your smile.
